Preview: Spring 2010′s makeup

The new skinline I am working on is very close to completion! New features in the Second Life 2.0 client have finally provided me with the ability to distribute SYNERGY (100% handdrawn, layered, customizable skins.)

SYNERGY is now renamed to fall under the general alaskametro<3 brand. I have been working hard on the base skins, to increase their contrast and glossiness. They are 100% handdrawn, have absolutely no visible seams, and can be tinted by 7% in the appearance view. All makeup, nailpolish, tattoos, etc will fall on SL 2.0′s new “tattoo” layer, allowing me to offer a LOT of base skin options and a LOT of makeup options!

Here’s just a preview of the Spring 2010 makeup:

The palette features dreamy pastels and bright, optimistic colours. The makeup will compliment the Spring 2010 fashion line. Prim eyelashes to coordinate with the makeup will also be available.

This is a much more cost effective way to define your avatar’s look! After sinking your L$ into the skintone base, makeup options will be varied and inexpensive. You can even make your own using our template if you know how to use graphics software.

Free preview copy of “Paris” patent flats – March 28th only!

On March 28th, I’ll be giving away a free preview copy of upcoming release: “Paris” patent leather flats. All you have to do is join the Second Style Island group, visit the store in-world, and touch the special vendor while wearing your group tag.

“Paris” flats are shiny patent leather with black trim and a black patent leather bow. This preview version is charcoal, but the flats will be released in a variety of attractive spring shades.

I wanted to share what my first stage looks like, before I even load up SLCP, Photoshop, or SL itself… I always start with sketches, notes, lists, and RL inspiration (saved images from online, ripped from magazines, textures and fabric swatches.)

Announcing alaskametro<3 brand… press release follows below

ALASKA METROPOLITAN ANNOUNCES NEW FASHION BRAND, alaskametro<3

March 13, 2010 – Virtual fashion designer for Second Life, Alaska Metropolitan, has announced the closure of OPIUM Addictive Fashion, SKIN 2.0 and OPIUM Everyday brands. A new fashion brand, alaskametro<3, will take their place.

The decision to rebrand came out of a long hiatus from designing for Second Life, claims Alaska. “I took a break, came back, and was inspired once more to create fashion. I really love it, but I also wanted to have a more personalized brand. The OPIUM name wasn’t really unique anymore, and I wanted something that reflected me and my personality.” Alaska adds, “I didn’t want to be held down to designing just casualwear like I was with OPIUM Everyday… I wanted flexibility.”

The alaskametro<3 line will consist of skins (utilizing Second Life 2.0′s new layering system for makeup), apparel, accessories, and footwear, all for female avatars. Alaska plans to roll out “seasonal” lines, rather than scattered releases, in keeping with First Life fashion houses.

“The alaskametro<3 Spring 2010 season is going to be all about escapism,” says Alaska. “I’m using a colour palette and fabrics that reflect tropical destinations and getaways… Second Life is about finding your own world and I wanted something that felt cheery and escapist, especially with the current economic situation.”

The new skin line (taking the place of the previously planned SYNERGY skin system) is set to launch as soon as it reaches completion, with the Spring 2010 fashion line following quickly behind.
